Story by Bart Newman photos by Lisa Holtz
Round three of the GLMX ATV Championship weekend rolled in to the ATV friendly confines of Log Road MX and the rides were not to be disappointed as Jeff Beerbower and his track crew had the facility in tip top shape and ready for some great day one ATV racing action.
On the little track it was Derick Granberg ripping up the 50cc quad class while the Lesniak brothers went at it in the 90 Production class with Austin getting the nod for the overall.
On the main track no one was faster that Kyle Fix who had the track dialed in running his KTM at speed in both motos taking big wins in both Quad A motos. Cody Hawks rode well to keep Fix honest and crossed the line in each moto was the number two rider which married his overall finish. Daniel Colip and Matt Jones battle over the last step of the podium in each moto but on each occasion Colip took advantage of some great lines to come out on top when al was said and done.
In the Quad B class Local rider Ryan Wagner didn’t have to come far as the Coldwater Michigan ATV specialist used home field advantage to knock down both Ben Leutz and Brent Shaw in each race respectfully setting the top three in stone.
Brendon Holtz lead the charge in the Quad Vet class winning both moto over rival Robert Robinson as the elder statesmen had a good battle.
The biggest quad class of the day belonged to the “C” class and it was anyone’s race as the gate dropped on moto one. Caleb Gatt (1-1) used good starts and smooth lines to keep his Yamaha with the black side down and the throttle to the stop grabbing a pair of moto wins for the days overall. Travis Staggs (2-2) took runner up honors in both Quad “C” motos as the Kalamazoo Michigan rider looked at home aboard his Honda all day. The fight for the next three spots in the top five tightened up as Aaron Levin, Nick Miller and Dustin Dihle went to war. Levin (4-3) better finish in moto two proved to be the deciding factor as Levin took third in the tie breaker moto to seal up third overall for his efforts as well. Dihle (5-4) bettered his first moto score by one but Millers third in moto one proved to be the difference as Dihle would have to settle of fifth overall. Miller (3-5) didn’t have the kind of second moto he had hoped for and lost two spots after a strong start to hand over a podium finish to Levin finishing a close fourth overall.
