My...How Time Flies

It seems like it was just the other day when we were wondering what the 2008 season of national racing would be like. We wondered if the two motocross series would still be in competition with each other. We wondered if the WPSA would continue to expose the sport. We wondered if the ATVPG would step up their program. We wondered all kinds of things. We were a bunch of racers with a bunch of questions.

Of course, many of our speculations, expectations and mental wanderings have been answered by now. The WPSA went South. The ATVPG stepped it up. And, the sport headed into another season.

We witnessed the rise of Suzuki/Yoshimura’s Dustin Wimmer. We’ve seen the return of Yamaha’s Bill Ballance to the pinnacle of the GNCC series. We’ve watched as Honda’s Harold Goodman and Can-Am’s Josh Frederick have defended their championships in the ATVA EDT series and the WORCS series,
respectively.

We’ve also seen the rise of many a young gun in all the ranks of racing. KTM’s Adam McGill set the early season stage in the GNCCs and still has a shot of upsetting the Ballance era. Brandon Sommers, also of the GNCC series, has turned many a head as he’s zipped through the woods at cross country events. In the MX Nationals, Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer, Can-Am’s Jeremy Lawson and Baldwin/Honda’s Josh Upperman have shown glimpses of talent that will surely put the trio at the forefront of the series in the next few years, if not sooner.

I don’t know about you, but this year’s racing season has flown by.  It’s not over yet, but the waning rounds are upon us and before you can blink an eye it will all be over. Gone. In the history books. Memories will be all that’s left and we’ll start doing the same thing we always do when we’ve got too much time to think during the off season.

We’ll start wondering again.

Already people are starting to talk about what’s going to happen next year. Rumors are dripping off the pits at national races like a fresh dew of the early morning in a secluded meadow hidden within the West Virginia foothills. Questions are already becoming the main stay of national types and many a puzzled expression has been seen traversing across the face of many a person who’s heard a juicy rumor.

And to think...it’s only July.
