Round #6 for the Ultimate Quad MX Championships at the world famous Crandon International Off-road Raceway in Crandon, WI. The weather was in our favor for the first time this year! The Crandon event round was actually scheduled as a Triple Crown event with Dirt Drags and TT racing on Saturday followed by MX racing on Sunday. The event had an added purse of $1500 to the top 5 overall winners in the Pro-am Open and Open A class.
Mark Delahaut would be the man with the most motor in the Dirt Drags with easily winning Open A and Pro-am Open. On the TT track, which was run on the famous off-road truck course, Mark Delahaut would once again jump to the early lead but Adam Warren was persistent and able to real Delahaut in for the win in the main for Pro-am Open. In the Open A class, Delahaut would jump to the early lead and maintain it followed by Eric Wenzel. The TT event is one that most of these riders look forward to all year with the track being wide open and high speed. The added split lane added a lot of excitement for the rest of the classes as well with Tyler Hacket winning Production B and Nick Crowell in Open B.
Sunday would bring the final day of competition on the newly built MX track. Track consisted of several step-ups and step-downs that appealed to all the riders. Mark Delahaut would once again be the fast man on the track. Delahaut was the one rider consistently airing it out over the jumps. Mitch Rabida was looking fast in the Pro-am Open class as well, taking 2nd in the first moto followed by Adam Warren, Eric Wenzel and Cody Walesh. In the Open A class Mark Delahaut would take the first moto win as well, followed by Eric Wenzel, Cody Walesh, Mike Kruse and Nick Matuszewski.
Mark Delahaut would start the 2nd motos in the same fashion. Eric Wenzel was close behind and opportunity would come when Delahaut’s chain came off going into the triple/triple section. Wenzel was in place to take the lead as Delahaut would be passed by the entire pack and find himself in last by the time he got his chain back on. Wenzel would maintain his lead followed by Cody Walesh, Chris Fiedler, Adam Warren and Mark Delahaut would gain some positions and finish 5th. Eric Wenzel would in turn end up with the overall win for the day with his 4, 1 finish. Mitch Rabida would suffer a bad crash in the site laps of moto #2 lawn darting his quad off the first jump. Rabida was seeing stars for while and would not be able to run the 2nd moto dropping him from 2nd in the 1st moto to a 7th overall for the day. Current points leader Cody Janssen took the weekend off to prepare for the upcoming GNC race at Redbud. Other contenders Matt Mullen and Bill Berger have been sidelined for the remainder of the year with injuries. In the Open A class Mark Delahaut would be back out front and finish the day 1, 1 with the rest of the field coming in similar to moto #1 with Eric Wenzel 2nd followed by Cody Walesh, Mike Kruse, and Chris Fiedler.
In the B classes, Wisconsin would see the return of the Spurling family. The #36 of D.J. Spurling was a dominant force in the youth classes and with their return has brought some added competition. D.J. was looking as smooth as some of the Pro-am riders on the MX track. Spurling would go 1, 1 in the Open B class followed by Brian Kinczfogel, Nick Crowell, Quinn Bader and Mike Arndt. Nick Crowell would be consistent though and win the overall from Spurling in the Production B class with a 2, 2 finish, followed by Dan Ewaskowitz, D.J. Spurling, Doug Heath and Joey Tomazevic.
The next round of competition takes place August 24th at the new MotoZone facility in Tigerton, WI. Track and facility has been designed to rival any other ATV National track. Look for a lot more to come on events for this weekend.
